# NACHA: ACH Authorization Requirements

This article provides summary information of National Automated Clearing House Association****(NACHA) requirements and regulations for Automated Clearing House (ACH) authorizations for your review as part of your risk and compliance activities. ## Review ACH Authorization Information

Review the following information:

- *Rights and Responsibilities of Originating Depository Financial Institutions (ODFIs), Their Originators, and Third-Party Senders*, which includes the following sections:
  - *Originator Must Obtain Authorization from Receiver*
  - *Debit Entries to Consumer Accounts*
  - *Originating Pre-arranged Payment or Deposit (PPD) Entries*
  - *Originating Corporate Credit or Debit (CCD) Entries*
  - *Originating Telephone Initiated Entries (TEL) Entries*
  - *Originating WEB Entries*
- *ACH WEB (eCheck) Fact Sheet*
- *ACH PPD and TEL Fact Sheets and Authorization Scripts*

## IAT Authorization Requirements

International ACH Transactions (IAT) refer to the use of the ACH service to send payments internationally and from or through a US territory. The following diagram illustrates the involvement of payment transactions, financial institutions, and the ACH network in an IAT.

### Overview of IAT Regulations

IATs are regulated under a rule, which includes two major points:

- Any payments made *from* a Financial Agency outside of US territories must be classified as an IAT.
- An IAT includes information on all parties to the ACH transactions.

ACH transactions must be classified as an IAT if the payment goes through the US ACH network at any point.

A secure electronic network in the United States that processes electronic funds transfers (EFTs) between banks. It facilitates automatic debits and credits to Payrix Pro merchant checking and savings accounts. The networks also supports one-time direct payments from customer bank accounts, known as eChecks.
